The supporters – participants of the ANEF conference on June 17th 2009 in Linz conclude:

1) No sustainable energy form
Because of its serious safety risks as well as other disadvantages nuclear power is not a sustainable form of energy. Therefore the signatories call for an all-European nuclear phase-out on the shortest possible term.

2) No financial support for nuclear power stations
The signatories categorically dismiss all attempts to create a nuclear renaissance under the guise of climate protection. Measures to abate climate change should not lead to any financial support for nuclear power – also not indirectly.

3) No economical efficiency
The urgency of climate change demands an efficient use of available financial means, aiming for fast and significant effects. Investments in the construction of new nuclear power stations are economically inefficient. They hinder the deployment of more efficient instruments to reduce greenhouse gases like energy efficiency, co-generation or the forced expansion of renewable energy sources.

4) Nuclear in competition with renewables for grid space
Large-scale inflexible centralised electricity generators like nuclear power stations are in modern grid management in direct competition for grid space and flexibility with rapidly growing renewable energy sources. Uptake of more nuclear power in the electricity mix will hinder the development of a truly low-carbon energy structure. Only the phase-out of large-scale electricity generators will deliver the flexible grid needed for a 100% renewable future.

ANNOUNCEMENT - Anti Nuclear European Forum (ANEF) on 17th of June in Linz, Austria

The ANTI-NUCLEAR EUROPEAN FORUM  (ANEF)
will take place
in Linz, Upper Austria 
on 17th of June 2009
 

In the autumn of 2007 the European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF) was established. Within ENEF it was aimed that all aspects of this controversial form of energy should be discussed. Both, Czech Republic and Slovakia showed intensive efforts for the organization of ENEF. Semi-annual meetings take place in Prague and Bratislava alternately. The next ENEF meeting will be held in Prague on 28th - 29th of May 2009. This is already going to be the fourth meeting.

Unfortunately, ENEF failed to fulfill ENEF´s official objectives and is used one-sided as a propaganda instrument for the promotion of nuclear power instead. The Prime Ministers Topolanek and Robert Fico used the opening of the forum several times for unqualified unilateral cheering speeches on nuclear energy, while the discussion of the negative aspects of nuclear energy use has been largely ignored, which resulted in increasing dissatisfaction of the critical participants.
